The market for artificial light is always changing. Not that long ago people were still sceptical about the quality of LED lighting. Today, we can’t imagine a world without it. But what’s the next step for our industry? Here’s a hint: take a look out the window.

Thanks to the many capabilities of LED, we can make it so that the lighting in buildings follows the natural cycle of daylight. Simulating this cycle is called human centric lighting, or circadian lighting. This new way of thinking is inspired by the fact that the human body responds to changes in daylight.

Morning light wakes people up and when the sun goes down, we tend to power down as well. You can replicate this effect by changing the lighting in the office, school or even at home. More and more people are coming to the realisation that this can be beneficial to our bodies, and in return, productivity.

Tunable white

The technology behind human centric lighting is surprisingly simple: by mixing multiple dimmable light sources you can create a wide range of colour temperatures. This technology is called tunable white. Each of the temperatures corresponds to a different kind of daylight: morning light, broad daylight, evening dusk and so on. In technical terms: morning light has a temperature of 2700 Kelvin while 6500 Kelvin is comparable to broad daylight. Regular office lighting is usually around 4000 Kelvin.

That’s why all of our products (downlights, panels and backlights) offer a range of 2700 to 6500 Kelvin. With our Zen-Lite control solutions, your clients can create different profiles for different situations during the day. Maybe they have their own company and want to create a more relaxing atmosphere fort heir employees during lunchtime. But when it’s time for work again, they can just adjust the lighting to a cooler (higher) light temperature of 6000 or 6500 Kelvin to give everybody in the office a boost of energy.

High quality solutions

Dimmable lights are essential for human centric lighting, and the dimming shouldn’t produce any flickering. Even if your eyes don’t pick up on it, the rest of your body will. Flickering can cause headaches for example.

That’s why all of our products comply with the guidelines set for tunable whites, to make sure they live up to our customer’s expectations. And thanks to our Zen-Lite control solutions, we can integrate both existing and new lights into one system and make it human centric.
